  • 2014 Chablis Vieilles Vignes "Sélection Massale", Domaine Servin

"Massale" laves på druer fra gamle vinstokke på maken Pargues, "den glemte 1.Cru". Her var ikke vin, da Chablis blev klassificeret i 1930'erne, men på gamle kort er den listet som 1.Cru. Den særlige cuvée er sjælden -blot 10.000 flasker i god årgang.

A more restrained nose reflects notes of seaweed, tidal pool, mineral reduction and citrus zest aromas. There is first-rate concentration to the medium-bodied and relatively powerful flavors that also culminate in a bone dry, crisp, saline and impressively persistent finale. This too is worth considering particularly if you like old school Chablis.

The 2014 Chablis Vieilles Vignes "Sélection Massale" comes from within the Les Pargues vineyard... Maturing on the lees. Winemaker Marc Cameron told me that it will probably spend 18 months in 30-40% old barrels. It has a generous and quite feisty bouquet with orange sorbet and light peachy notes. The palate is vigorous and animated on the entry with orange rind and citrus peel flourishing toward the finish. Limited to around 10,000 bottles, this delicious Chablis is well worth seeking out.
