  • 2017 ZIND (Chardonnay, Auxerrois), Zind-Humbrecht

Delikat vin med "sexy charme", som Schildknecht fra Robert Parker udtrykker det. Ekstraordinært modne druer i 2017: vinen gærede i 15 mdr.

The 2017 Zind contains more Auxerrois than the 2016 (35% instead of 18%) and even a bit of Pinot Blanc complementing the dominant Chardonnay. Tasted from the vat in October 2018, this is very aromatic and juicy Vin de France from pure Muschelkalk soils in the Clos Windsbuhl. This has refreshing acidity and a lot of sexy charm. Very delicate and fresh, just gorgeous. Vinified in large oak. Drink 2019 - 2029. - Stephan Reinhardt.

Slight reductive smokiness on the nose of this wine leads onto a light, still slightly spritzy palate that presents green pear, ripe lemon and grapefruit zestiness. The wine is dry, bright, slightly textured and utterly refreshing, with a moreish, lemony finish.

I liked the Zind in 2017 even more than last year's. Just as smooth but it seems to have more nuance, this blend of 70% Chardonnay and the rest Auxerrois. The vines are getting older - 28 years old and owner and winemaker Olivier Humbrecht still considers them "young". No denying the fine limestone terroir, and the pH at 3.2 is low enough to ensure zing to this Zind. Just over 3 grams of residual sugar per liter, and clocks in at 12.5 per cent alcohol. Do not hesitate with this Vin de France of Alsace!
